Pros: Phenomenal functionality and control
Cons: None

A phenomenal head for the avid tripod user. I've used heads from Kirk Photo, Gitzo, Arca-Swiss, Manfrotto, etc. Nothing comes even close. This head has a silky movement to it, and is so quick and easy, yet totally reliable. The plate system is without equal. I use RRS plates for ALL cameras. The only drawback is the price. But if you can afford it, it is entirely worth it.

Pros: Lever action, quality build
Cons: None

I replaced my Arca Swiss Ballhead with the RRS BH-55 and have never regretted the change. The biggest advantage of the RRS head over the Arca Swiss is that the lever action makes it much quicker and easier to mount and dismount the camera. Another advantage is that the Arca Swiss head would sometimes bind up and several minutes of fiddling might be necessary to free it up. I have never had this problem with the RRS head. I would also note that RRS offers an entire system of accessories that integrate very smoothly with their ballheads such as the panorama head that I also own. All of their products are strongly built and beautifully finished.

Pros: Versatile, Robust Build
Cons: Quite Heavy

It's Built like a tank.... and just about as heavy as one.

It's perfect for Macro and Landscape work. The Lever release allows for a quick dismount. The Bubble Level on the plate mount is quite handy as well.

Very well designed and a pleasure to use, but not a pleasure to lug around. It's perfect for a studio or shooting a few feet from your car, but I don't enjoy lugging it around on long photo hikes.

All of the RRS equipment is of first rate quality, and BH-55 series ballheads are no exception. Very smooth action, sturdy, and a pleasure to use! Highly recommended!
