manfrotto-055xprob.jpg

(From company literature) Manfrotto 055XPRO. The 055XPROB makes the famous Manfrotto-patented horizontal centre column feature even easier to use. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, it can be swung round to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself, so switching between framing and positioning setups is more convenient than ever. The ergonomics of the leg angle release mechanism and the quick action leg locks themselves have also been greatly improved.

Specifications:

  • Number of Leg Sections: 3
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Center column: Rapid
  • Leg Angles: 23, 45, 65, 88 degrees
  • Leg Lock Type: Flip Lever

  • Maximum Height w/o Column Extended: 142 cm / 55.9 in.

Pros: Well built, sturdy.
Cons: No spikes

My old Velbon DGB-3 with 25 years old needed to be replaced and after being on the market for an equivalent tripod, I ended to buy this Manfrotto offering, together with the 808RC4 tilt&pan head.

I like aluminium tripods and I do not care too much about the weight. This tripod can support very well and safely my D200 + vertical Grip + flash + 70-300 zoom lens, either in vertical position or the weird but fantastic horizontal position. Amazing this feature which do give us plenty of creativity.

I am used to ballheads but ended to buy the 808RC4 pan&tilt head, which feels more secure and has a great grip and ease of adjustments. And the quick release is sturdy, with a double safety mechanism, a big plate and on the fly mount-dismount .

All is all a great buying, with a ratio of price/quality really good.
