Pros:
Easy to use. Silent recharge. Perfect exposure.
Cons:
Buttons too small. Price.

It is as unintrusive, except for the handling, as the built in flash. Zooms in sync with my lens. Emits only as much light as you need. And the recharge of the flash is dead silent. All in all, an excellent piece of kit.
But, one caveat - this is a slave lens, it does not have master control, i.e. it will not control other Canon speedlites. If you want a master/slave setup and cost is an issue, buy the 580EX first, which is a master. Then buy the 430EX later.
