I really like the Olympus E-500. It's comfortable to hold, handsome, and seems to work quite well. It has almost all the features I'd look for in a digital SLR, including a high enough resolution to stave off any feeling of obsolescence for the next year or so, and a number of modes to assist and enhance a user's photography as they learn (or re-learn) the craft. No other manufacturer offers a sensor that cleans itself every time you power it on, and few digital SLR currently on the market have a screen this big and beautiful.

While it was bold, the physical design of the original EVOLT E-300 didn't do justice to the legitimate technology that lay inside. The Olympus E-500 brings the company back to basics, with a time-tested design whose familiarity should attract more users. Here's hoping that the shipping version exceeds the abilities of the E-300 as is expected, because everything else about the camera just seems right. -Shawn Barnett (from preview)

Pros: Good quality pics - easy to use on automatic for beginner.

I won this camera online. I had no idea what a great camera I was getting until I started taking pictures. The picture is much more superior to any o the cameras I've had before.

Pros: feel, sturdy grip, great image quality, value for money, light weight
Cons: no battery grip as of yet....

i read alot of reviews before picking the oly e-500 over the rebel xt and D-50. Therefore i'm writing this one for anyone out there who wants to get one.
For my needs (i'm just an enthusiast) i think i made the right decision.

let me start of by saying that the optical viewfinder's size is NOT an issue. Yes it's smaller than other brands, but so what?

i also bought the me-1 magnifier eyecup, only to take it off after ten minutes. With the magnifier the entire image in the viewfinder is slightly "fisheyed".

Another issue that people adress in professional reviews is that iso below 400 is noisy. I wouldn't know since i never use that mode - nor used to shoot lower iso with 35mm film.

let's be honest, it's not the first pick for professionals, but for everyone else IT IS GREAT!
having said that, i just love my dslr. it captures great shots with vibrant color.
At first i focused too much on features and the tecnology in digital imaging, but now i look at my results. very happy with it.

8mega pixels are a little overkill for my everyday use, but cool for blowups.
so far i only use the two kit lenses and the camera has more features and customizasions than i can grasp. but i think i will keep this one for many years as i can explore all the features and extra lenses over time.

for anyone who's curious i chose ergonomics over iso performance compared to the 350d and megapixels & display size over nikon's credability. however they are all great in different ways.
i'm also impressed by the 4/3rds system.

i hope this helps for anyone who is put off by criticism about e-500 small viewfinder etc.
if i was you - i'd look at the pros and ignore the cons!!!!
