You really do get what you pay for. This does way better than the built in flash, but it's not a "real" flash unit if you need any distance or want to compose bounce shots. One real nice thing about this flash, however, is that it's really small and it's decent for short throw applications.
I'd recommend this flash if you're just looking for something better than the built in flash, but don't want to spend the money for all the features and power of the bigger brothers.

Canon's cheapest flash is not very cheap. In Canada, 220+ tax. For this amount of money, the flash head should swivel-- all other brands entry level do so! Otherwise there is nothing wrong with it... the next up in price is nearly double- and for this you get more sophisticated controls+ head swivel. Seems a bit pricey to me!

This is a great little flash for when you want ot pack small and light. Exposure was just as good (when within its recommended working range) as my 580EX (straight up) on a 20D and G7.
Note: this is only a full auto flash (except for FEC in-camera if you have it)
For the price, however, you should only get this if you NEED a small flash, otherwise, you might be better off with a 430EX for more versatility, power, swivel/bounce, manula control.
