Sunpak PZ-40X review by nk4002r

Pros: Cheap, small, swivel head, illuminated lcd
Cons: None

I choose the Sunpak PZ-40X over the original Canon flash for my camera and I did not regret it. It is cheaper, smaller and compliments my camera better with its curvier look than the 420EX ! All TTL functions are supported (and there is a new, updated version, PZ-40X-II which supports the e-TTL functions of the 430EX). It has a swivel zoom head (24-80mm). The cycle times are pretty fast (for a non-professional, home user), allows to discharge the flash even before it is fully charged. But of course, the performance drops when the batteries are getting emptied (or if used with an old battery that does not hold a charge so well), so make sure you carry an extra set of charged AA's (the flash is powered by two AA). The illuminated lcd contains all necessary information. Two buttons allow for easy manual setting of the the zoom position and flash strength. The flash is also available for Nikon and Pentax (but of course, those have different shoe-interface, so make sure, you pick up the right version for your camera). Another plus is that it is manufactured both in silver and black, so you can pick one that matches your silver color rebel or black bodies camera. The only negative point I'd give is for the battery door which makes me nervous that it will not last for as long as the flash itself...
