I use this monopod for sports photography mainly.
It´s height is about right as soon as you are no taller than 6".
It´s very light but sturdy, you feel like you can run over it with your car and it will still work.
About portability: comes standard with a carrying handle, that I found very usefull when moving from one place to another. It´s also a snap to open and close it since it has only 3 sections and quick releases.
I found it to be a killer combo with Manfrotto´s 322RC. Both of them very recomendable products that wont disappoint you.

I wanted a sturdy monopod with only 3 sections for a reasonable price. The Gitzos were to expensive for me, so I went with the Manfrotto 681B. I have not been disappointed. This monopod can handle any lens you put on it, is fast and easy to use, and doesn't weight too much. The leg locks are well designed, and easy to tighten if they don't provide enough clamping force.
The only drawback I can see is that this monopod doesn't collapse to a very short length, which may be desirable if you need to put it inside a backpack or small suitcase. The price you pay for this feature is that it takes longer to set up and you are always fiddling with more leg locks. The more leg sections, the less sturdy the monopod will be.
Very Highly Recommended!

This is an amazing monopod! It supports a 400/2.8 lens like a beauty. You could swear that it was filled with helium.
This is a very sturdy monopod. It had support for 1/4 and 3/8 screws, the 3/8 retracts into 1/4 when you place a lens on top. I had purchased a cheap eBay monopod in the past to save money, to regret it later on.
Need a great monopod? Get this. It is tough to get lighter and stronger than this for the price.
