I used the 3030 pan/tilt head for several months before moving on to a ball head. The 3030 has very solid construction and holds my camera well at any position. It is smooth, pans well and could we used well with video equipment (that is why I still have this head).
My only complaints weren't with the head itself but were with pan/tilt heads in general. The first is that it is slower to position than a ball head. The second was the lack of ability to move the camera vertically when the camera is tilted to the portrait position. However, as pan/tilt heads go the 3030 works great. There are even times I wish I had it mounted instead of the ballhead, especially when I am working with a heavy lens.
